EU Daily internet usage by country. Compare: 2006 and 2023

 Starting with 2021, more than 4 out of 5 Europeans use the Internet daily or almost daily. The highest rates are in Holland and Nordic countries, who, by the way, were the first to adopt the Internet on a large scale. 

According with https://doi.org/10.2908/ISOC_R_IUSE_I, „Individuals who used the internet, frequency of use and activities” DB on Eurostat, there are still major gaps between the regions, but, overall, the percent of people that use internet daily grew in entire EU.

Note: all stats are in percent of population 16-74.

In 2006, the only country where total internet usage was under 25% of target population (16-74) was Romania. But in the vast majority of EU states, internet usage (yearly) was around 50%. As for daily usage, obviously, the figures was lower.

In 2006, list of countries where the Daily usage was under 25% included: Spain, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia. Also, there was no countries with a daily usage over 75% of target population.

After 2006

The use of the Internet has grown constantly, both in terms of the number of more or less accidental users, as well as in terms of intensity. The total number of internet users in the EU is increasing towards 100%. The number of those who use the Internet daily exceeded 80% in 2021 and continues to grow.

The natural tendency was to increase the personal use of the Internet. The pandemic accelerated the process of Internet adoption even more, but the trend was clear from the previous period. In the EU there is no state where the daily use of the Internet is less than 50%. However, there were quite a few where the usage exceeded 90% (with intense green on the map).

According to ec.europa.eu: 
The percentage of adults (16 to 74-year-olds) in the EU using the internet every day during the three months prior to the survey increased by 15 percentage points when comparing 2015 with 2020 (from 65% to 80%).
In 2020, the majority of northern and western regions of the EU reported relatively high proportions of adults using the internet on a daily basis; the highest shares of adults using the internet every day were generally recorded among people living in cities rather than those living in rural areas.
